Danielle M. Bianco-Bacigalupo is a native of Brooklyn, who is proud of her transplantation to Staten Island. Danielle is deeply rooted in the Staten Island community, it became “her place” especially because she got sober here in 2011. Since then, she has been focused on working with and helping others in the community. As a college English professor and PhD candidate, Danielle continues to make ripples in areas of socially-just pedagogy, recovery activism, literacy, and community storytelling projects. In May 2018, Danielle founded “Voices from Rock Bottom” a bi-weekly live-stream radio show on alcoholism, addiction, and recovery via Maker Park Radio – NYC, which she continues to host as her way to pay it forward, to give space and voice to alcoholics, addicts, and their loved ones. Danielle firmly believes in projects and “doing work” to create change.
Danielle M. Bianco-Bacigalupo is a PhD candidate at St. John’s University, currently ABD status. As a doctoral fellow, Danielle taught Literature in a Global Context to undergraduates and was the photographer/graduate editor of the English Department blog.
In the past, Danielle has taught both private and DOE secondary education in Brooklyn, and other introductory college literature and writing courses.
Currently, Danielle is an adjunct instructor for the FYW Program for the English Department at CUNY CSI, and for Literature in a Global Context at both the Queens and Staten Island campuses of SJU. When not teaching, Danielle continues to develop her research in areas of socially-just pedagogy, (auto)ethnography, recovery activism, and community literacies.
Danielle firmly believes in community projects that “do work” to create change and raise awareness. In May of 2018, Danielle founded “Voices from Rock Bottom”, a bi-weekly live-stream radio show, with MakerParkRadio.nyc , which she continues to host as her way to pay it forward and give space and voice to alcoholics, addicts, and their loved ones. Although this project is a component of her dissertation, VFRB is a storytelling series that urges activism and advocacy for and within the local Staten Island community!! For more information on the radio show, please check out Danielle’s blog www.voicesfromrockbottom.com.
Danielle has also made her way back to the stage, as the stage Manager for Hemlock Theatre Co.’s 2018 production of “American Idiot”, while also serving the staten island theatre community as one of their board members.
Danielle has been sober since November 12th, 2011.
